With the upcoming Spring and the slow lift of mask use, I find myself reaching for colourful lipsticks.
With masks, it really had no sense as nobody would see it and well, we also had to wear them outside for some time.
And usually, lipsticks wouldn't survive wearing a mask for even a short time, so it really didn't make any sense to use them.
Luckily some companies heard us and created a mask-resistant lipstick.
I gone one of such lipsticks by Catrice. Let's see how it worked for me.
Catrice Ultimate Stay Waterfresh Lip Tint
Fresh sensation! The Ultimate Stay Waterfresh Lip Tint provides a boost of freshness on the lips thanks to its high water content. The nourishing and lip tinting texture moisturizes, dries quickly and won't stain. This makes the Lip Tint a perfect companion – even under a mask. The Ultimate Stay Waterfresh Lip Tint is available in various shades.
Catrice has affordable cosmetics and classy designs. Their products are trendy and of good quality.
That are just some of the reasons why I love Catrice. Another one is that I've been with the brand since it came out in Slovenia.
I "graduated" from Essence to Catrice and later to L.O.V. (which can't be found here anymore) and loved every single part of the journey.
I picked up this lip tint because it promised that it's stain resistant. That it won't leave me with a big smudge on my face when I will inevitably pull off my mask.
- Lightly tints the lips and stays put
- Pampering and refreshing
- Can be worn underneath a mask
- Vegan
The design is nothing special - it does its job well. Looks pretty enough and functional.
The doe-foot applicator is on the stiffer side but that is exactly what makes it easier to use. The formula is very watery - as it's a lip stain that's expected.
Beauty Tip
Lip Tints can also be worn under masks as they do not stain. Apply the lip tint in layers and let it dry well between each layer for a more intense colour result.
I did a small experiment; I drew on my hand and waited 3 minutes before washing it off. With soap.
It didn't budge apart from the first layer (which always happens with stains).
The stain layer didn't get off. And even 24 hours later I still have some sort of stain on my hand. I washed my hands several times and moisturizer them too!
I wish it would have the same staying power on my lips. Sadly it doesn't - it vanished when I ate.
I mean, it did try to survive my feast, but since it was greasy, it was no easy task. After it, I only had the outer part of the lipstick on. Ooops.
But without eating it stayed for a good amount of time before it vanished with my last sip of water. I'd say it lasted about 4-5 hours. I also wore a mask where it didn't leave any trace of lipstick on it. I really liked that and can see myself using it during work when I have to wear a mask.
INCI:INGREDIENTS: AQUA (WATER), GLYCERIN, AMMONIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE/VP COPOLYMER, MICA, SODIUM HYALURONATE, ISOSTEARYL ISOSTEARATE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, SUCROSE LAURATE, HYDROGENATED STARCH HYDROLYSATE, HEXYLENE GLYCOL, SUCROSE DILAURATE, SUCROSE TRILAURATE, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, PHENOXYETHANOL, CI 16035 (RED 40), CI 45410 (RED 28), CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE).
I prefer removing the first layer of the lipstick after about 5 minutes. But I think that it may not be really necessary as it dries to a non-sticky finish. But I prefer a more natural matte look of stains vs a shiny one.
I did however remove the layer for the photos - I did a kiss test and after 6 kisses it stopped leaving any residue.
But bear in mind that I did the kiss test right after application.
I really like the look of the stained lips. They look so polished and with little to no effort. I mean that's a win in my book.
Plus it's really hard getting a good lip tint in our stores. Or they're overpriced (compared to Korean ones) or won't hold for the life of them!
I also tried layering the lip tint - it worked well! I waited for about 5 minutes before I applied another layer. It made the lipstick look way more vivid which is something I enjoyed.
PROS:
+ It's actually a good lip tint!
+ inexpensive (about 3€)
+ holds well (4-5 hours without eating)
+ can be layered
+ doesn't dry out my lips
+ feels lightweight
+ it's mask proof!
+ looks very bold when applied and natural when faded/stained
+ has no scent
CONS:
- there's no dark red colour to choose from, only bright colours
OVERALL:
The Catrice Ultimate Stay Waterfresh Lip Tint (that's the name!) is a wonderful lip tint.
I enjoy wearing it as it feels like nothing on my lips. I feel that it would compliment many skin tones as it's a neutral red. I only wish that the lip tint would come in a dark cherry red so I could feed my inner gothic child. :)
Overall this is a great lip stain that can be found in drugstores for a good price - about 3€. Usually, non-Korean lip tints are about 18€+ vs the Korean ones which are 2-6€ depending where you get them.
There's still potential to learn from Korean cosmetics, but we're getting closer.
So, great job Catrice!
