I'm a big fan of masks. I love masking. And when I say masking I mean in terms of skincare.
This time I was testing Lush's mask 1000 Millihelens.
It promises to even and brighten your skin. Let's see how it did.
LUSH 1000 MILLIHELENS Mask
Smooth on a generous layer of this antioxidant-rich mask to brighten, soothe and tone your skin. Detoxifying green tea and witch hazel have a mildly astringent effect for toned, taut skin, and fresh apple juice's natural alpha hydroxy acids gently dissolve away dryness for a lifted, glowing complexion. After giving your face this royal treatment, it just might launch a thousand ships!
I originally wanted a fresh face mask but since it was a warm day and I had a whole walk to my home, I opted for a jelly mask.
The SA explained what each mask did and since I didn't have a bunch of gentle, moisturizing masks I got this one - the 1000 Millihelens. Plus it has a very nice fresh (green tea) scent which I enjoy a lot!
HOW TO USE IT?
Pinch off some jelly, work between dry hands to form a paste and apply on the skin. Leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse clean.
It sounds easy, doesn't it? Well, it's not. You have to really work the jelly and it takes some time. I like pressing it between both my hands to get an even, smooth paste that would stick to my face. If you don't really work it, it won't stick to your skin.
I usually use one piece (I cut my mask in several pieces) to cover my whole face. It's doable but it takes a couple of minutes to do it.
I don't really mind the application process, but the washing off of the mask is annoying. It takes quite some time as the mask is well, slippery (jelly) and even if you use a washcloth it takes several tries.
It's almost as irritating as washing off a clay mask.
INCI:
Green Tea Infusion (Camellia Sinensis) Glycerine Propylene Glycol Kaolin Talc Fresh Apple Juice (Pyrus Malus) Zeolite Clay Carrageenan Extract (Chondrus Crispus) Sicilian Lemon Oil (Citrus Limonum) Neroli Oil (Citrus Aurantium Amara) Brazilian Orange Oil (Citrus Sinensis) Witch Hazel Extract (Hamamelis Virginiana) Water (Aqua) Geraniol *Limonene *Linalool Fragrance Chlorophyllin
Checking the INCI the mask doesn't seem to do much. It looks to be suitable for dry skin and a bit moisturizing but other than that, who knows? It may be brightening due to the lemon oil or the orange oil? I am not sure, but I don't mind.
+ Vegan
+ handmade
+ fun texture (jelly)
+ can be used several times (I'll use mine 18 times)
- not so easy to use
- not so easy to wash off
- doesn't offer great results
- expensive (14$)
I bought this mask because I was hoping to have shiny, happy skin after each use. But sadly that's not the case with it. Whenever I use it, I have a hard time washing it off and from that, my skin gets a little bit irritated. It feels smoother but I am not sure if the results are worth the annoying removal.
I didn't notice an evener skin tone or brighter skin, but I did enjoy wearing it as it kind of melts into the skin. It also doesn't dry out my skin which is always a plus. But because it can't compare to my beloved OSKIA Reinessance mask, I don't think it's worth the money.
I'd say skip this mask and try another one, maybe one of the fresh ones.
